Description: Confidentiality is one of the most valuable – but misunderstood – benefits that international arbitration offers in cross-border commercial disputes. This program will examine the role that confidentiality plays in international commercial arbitration, the numerous advantages it offers for resolving cross-border disputes, and how to effectively impose it by offering practical guidance through real-life examples.

J.P. Duffy is a globally recognized arbitration practitioner who handles all aspects of the international arbitration life cycle, from strategic clause drafting, to lead merits and hearing counsel, through award enforcement and recovery. Recognized as a global leader and one of the ten “Most Highly Regarded” international arbitration partners in the Americas by Global Arbitration Review’s WWL, he has represented clients across a range of industries in international arbitrations conducted under all major arbitral rules, including those of the ICC, AAA/ICDR, LCIA, HKIAC, SIAC, DIAC, JAMS, ICSID and UNCITRAL in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

J.P. also routinely sits as an arbitrator in commercial disputes, and is listed on the arbitrator rosters of most major arbitral institutions, including specialized panels like the AAA-ICDR Life Sciences Arbitrator panel. Additionally, J.P. conducts arbitration-related litigation around the globe, such as judicial interim relief applications and multi-jurisdictional award enforcement and recovery proceedings, and is qualified in New York, England & Wales, and the Dubai International Financial Centre Courts.

J.P. has substantial emerging market dispute resolution experience, and previously practiced as a foreign legal consultant in the Dubai office of an international law firm. His international arbitration practice has a strong geographic focus on the MENA region, the Indian sub-continent, Sub-Saharan Africa, and East Asia, as well as a particular emphasis on the life sciences, defense, technology, and franchising sectors. Before entering private practice, J.P. served as a law clerk to the Hon. Thomas C. Platt in the Eastern District of New York.
