Description:
Intellectual property transactions are now widely reported in the press, including transactions with billion dollar price tags. This has caused many companies to focus more on the question of valuation of their patent and other intellectual property assets to make sure they are not missing the opportunity offered by today’s IP marketplace, including using such assets to obtain financing. This program, for in-house and corporate counsel, focuses on understanding the various types of intellectual property and the basic concepts of how they may be valued for deals.

Joseph M. Casino, Esq. is a partner in the law firm of Wiggin and Dana LLP, in its Intellectual Property Practice. He has 18 years of experience in patent litigation in approximately 100 cases, and has been the lead or co-lead in all of them in the past several years. He has also advised clients on complex licensing matters, patent monetization issues, patent prosecution and strategic counseling with regard to avoiding or proving patent infringement. Named as Super Lawyer, 2013-2014, Mr. Casino regularly writes and lectures on patent issues.

Roy P. D’Souza is a Managing Director of Ocean Tomo, LLC, which provides financial products and services related to intellectual property including valuation, strategy consulting, proprietary research products, investment services, risk management products, management services and transaction brokerage. Mr. D’Souza, who is responsible for leading Ocean Tomo’s Valuation practice, has focused on valuations of intangible, intellectual property, and tangible assets for acquisitions and divestitures, bankruptcy and restructuring, establishment of intellectual property monetization strategies including licensing, mergers and joint venture/partnership formations, litigation support, and financial reporting and tax matters.
