Description: Litigators persuade. Join award winning advocacy teacher and attorney Mark D. McCurdy for a fun discussion of the top 10 persuasion “do’s and don’ts” from February’s impeachment trial. We will “de-politicize” the proceedings and take a hard look at its teachings on which oral advocacy skills to bring into the courtroom, and which ones to leave outside.
 
Presenter Bios  
 
Dr. Sharon Meit Abrahams is a legal talent development expert with over 25 years of experience in success coaching for attorneys and executing high impact programs for law firms. She has created and implemented firm wide initiatives that help attorneys maximize their productivity while maintaining engagement. When individuals produce, a firm increases its profitability. As a talent development leader, she has handled every aspect of an attorney’s firm life from onboarding and integration, through mentoring and training to succession planning and exit interviews.
 
Dr. Abrahams has published three books with the American Bar Association and regularly publishes articles for Thomson Reuters and American Legal Media.   Known for engaging and educational programs, Dr. Abrahams is a sought-after keynote speaker, program facilitator and law firm advisor.

Mark D. McCurdy is a practicing attorney and award-winning teacher cited by a national advocacy skills provider for his “dedication to the art of advocacy.” The proud father of Nathan and Tyler, Mark has taught advocacy skills since 1992.
He is the author of “Obtaining Admissions in Depositions,” Temple Law Review, Volume 74:1 (Spring 2001). This law review article, published in Temple’s Symposium: Advocacy 2000, draws on Mark’s extensive depositions experience in high profile matters. Together with Suellen Wideman and Sarah Reznek, he also authored State v. Graves, a Telemarketing Fraud Prosecution Case File. This case file is the basis for advocacy training by the National Association of Attorneys General.
 
Mark was with the Maryland Attorney General’s Office for almost 23 years, including a lengthy tenure in the Office’s elite Civil Litigation division. He possesses an extensive trial and appellate litigation background. For over eight years Mark served as the General Counsel for Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund (“MAIF”). In that role he oversaw and honed MAIF’s legal representation throughout the Maryland judicial system. From 2015 until his retirement in 2020, he was the Chief Executive Officer of this $200 million plus insurance entity.
 
Mark is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Maryland College Park, and holds a J.D. degree with honor from the University of Maryland Law School. He leads many deposition and trial training seminars, and lectures extensively across the United States on persuasion and communication skills for lawyers and law students.
