Description: This program discusses the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), which becomes effective May 2018, with specific focus on the obligations that the GDPR imposes on vendors (and their clients) through Article 28. The program explores practical ways in which companies have attempted to modify their contractual arrangements to account for those changes. A must program for in-house, corporate and compliance counsel for companies needing to comply with the new European data privacy and security regulations.

Christopher M. Achatz, Esq., an associate in the Boulder office of Bryan Cave LLP, is a member of its Technology, Entrepreneurial and Commercial group. Mr. Achatz advises clients on the licensing and transfer of intellectual property and high technology and also provides legal solutions to businesses regarding distribution and resale arrangements, professional service agreements, open source compliance, and data acquisition and commercialization. His data privacy and security practice involves advising his clients on industry-specific regulations and standards that govern the responsible use, collection, and management of their customers’ personal information, and he has developed company policies and drafted and implemented privacy-and security-related compliance, strategies, and programs. A Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), Mr. Achatz worked as a software engineer for a large technology consulting company.
David A. Zetoony, Esq. is a partner in the Washington, D.C. and Boulder, CO offices of Bryan Cave LLP. Mr. Zetoony is the leader of his firm's data privacy and security practice, and has extensive experience advising clients on how to comply with the advertising and data privacy rules and regulations of the Federal Trade Commission. He is an International Association of Privacy Professionals (“IAPP”) member, and he sits on the ABA Section of Antitrust Law’s Private Advertising Litigation Committee (former Vice-Chair); and the ABA Section of Antitrust Law’s Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Committee (former Consumer Protection Vice-Chair). He frequently speaks and writes on data security and privacy issues.
