A stunning 34 states introduced voter ID legislation this year, and seven states enacted new laws, each with their own unique provisions. What will these new laws mean for voters in 2012? What challenges do states face as they implement new voter ID laws? What have the courts had to say? And, what will 2012 bring in terms of voter ID legislation?
This session is designed to offer the audience an overview of recent state action and court opinions on voter ID, and the perspective of two panelists who take views of voter ID that might be regarded as unique in current discussions on the topic. One panelist is a county election supervisor from Florida with experience from the front lines in implementing a voter ID law. The other is a Democratic state legislator from the only state with a Democratic legislative majority to enact voter ID this year.
