Description: The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season was one of the most destructive we have seen in years.

Harvey pounded Houston and other areas of Texas with nearly 52 inches of rain. Irma followed with the record-breaking winds in the Caribbean, the Florida Keys, and up the Florida peninsula. Storm surges caused problems in the southeastern U.S. Jose brought tropical storm winds to New England. But the most lasting damage is in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, thanks to the punishing wind, rain and flooding brought by Hurricane Maria, causing not only devastation but also loss of life.

Thousands of homes have been impacted from a combination of floods and intense winds not seen by some areas in decades, if ever. What issues will homeowners faces as they try to rebuild or repair their homes with insurance payments? What issues will insurers face as they address an incredible volume of claims that add up to easily one of the most costly series of events in the history of insurance?

Benefit from the insights of our experienced panelists who, on Nov. 3, 2017, discussed the following insurance law concepts:

·        Wind vs. Flood Determinations and Methodologies
·        Distinguishing Storm Damage from Pre-Existing Damage
·        Roof Claims for Older Roofs
·        Repair or Replace?
·        Necessary Precautions
·        How to Deal with Long-Term Damage
·        Slayton v. Universal issues: Whether the policyholder must object to the insurer’s estimate in order to sue for a low offer.
