Deborah Bouchoux, Georgetown University Legal Assistant Certificate
Program Faculty, and author of "Intellectual Property, The Law of
Trademarks, Copyrights, Patents, and Trade Secrets," teaches this
NFPA continuing education program on the foundations of trademark
and copyright law, an excellent resource for paralegals, for
students enrolled in intellectual property (IP) courses as well as
for IP professionals who have not had formal training in
intellectual property law.
Understanding the foundations of trademark law is critical to
the long-term success of IP professionals, whether they function in
law firms, government agencies or in private sector businesses. Ms.
Bouchoux provides her insights and explanations of key concepts
raised in her course materials, including types and categories of
marks, "use" of marks, protectable matter, and exclusions. Also
included are explanations of the common law of copyright and the
1976 Copyright Act.
