Description: This pre-recorded CLE webinar will provide an introduction to password hashing and encryption. Data breaches are increasingly part of the news cycle, especially as “mega breaches” occur from time to time impacting tens of millions of people (two recent examples include OPM and Equifax). All 50 states have passed legislation requiring notifications to consumers (and sometimes regulators) following a data breach.
In light of the ubiquity of these laws, those unfamiliar with data breach-related legal practice may be forgiven for assuming there is a rich body of case law interpreting state notification statutes. There are surprisingly very few cases analyzing the nuts and bolts of these laws, leaving some quirks in the various statutes to be analyzed by lawyers in a guidance vacuum.
