Description: How do you grow pro bono when you are located in an area lacking the usual resources and capacity of a typical large city? The panelists, who have seized the challenge of cultivating pro bono in small and mid-sized cities, will share best practices, solutions to common challenges, and insights for law firms, in-house legal departments, and legal service organizations about how to overcome geography and expand pro bono offerings. You will learn practical steps that attorneys in small and mid-size markets can take to fulfill their ethical obligation to do pro bono and to encourage others to do the same. This program will cover topics such as identifying opportunities to engage in pro bono and increase access to justice in more rural markets and smaller cities; locating community resources to support pro bono efforts; employing pilot projects to test pro bono opportunities; engaging in effective collaborations, and more. The program will also examine specific pro bono projects relating to legal issues including consumer debt, landlord-tenant cases, immigration, and reducing recidivism.
