The presenters will cover issues such as: Why do we need expert or skilled lay testimony? How do we determine who would be the best expert for our case? How do we prepare our expert for her testimony and how do we protect her testimony from attack? How can we exclude or diminish the opponent's expert testimony? In addition, the discussion will include the legal issues such as: foundation needed for expert testimony, issues of speculation versus inferences from facts, disclosure requirements, and conflicts. 
 
YOUR SPEAKERS:
Patrick Devine is an experienced trial attorney who focuses his practice in the areas of commercial litigation, professional liability defense and insurance defense. Mr. Devine’s commercial litigation practice has focused on the areas of surety and fidelity law, while his professional liability practice has centered on the defense of physician and attorney malpractice claims.

 
Jennifer Fisher focuses her practice in the defense of personal injury, property damage, medical malpractice, legal malpractice, insurance defense claims and disputes and other complex litigation matters. She drafts memoranda, opinions, orders and judgments, and motions to amend, compel, intervene, strike, disqualify and dismiss, as well as motions for summary judgment, sanctions, and attorney fees. 
 
Jessica Mullen is a litigator who focuses her practice in the areas of transportation, premises liability, wrongful death and general tort defense. She also handles products liability matters. Ms. Mullen is actively involved in all phases of litigation, including motion practice, written and oral discovery, expert discovery, mediation and trial preparation. Ms. Mullen rejoined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP as an associate in March 2008.
