Description: In the last two years, American agriculture has seen the introduction of a number of online data collection and analytic tools designed to help farmers manage their farm data. As farmers sign-up for these programs, industry trade organizations have expressed concern that farmers are losing control and ownership over their information. In 2014, American Farm Bureau Federation led an effort among various agricultural companies and industry trade associations to create a document describing the core principles for farm data security and privacy. Join Todd Janzen, an Indiana agricultural law attorney who participated in drafting the Farm Bureau core principles document, as he examines the legal issues surrounding farm data collection, ownership, transfer, and privacy.

Todd Janzen is an agricultural law attorney at Plews Shadley Racher & Braun LLP, Indianapolis. He is a former chair of the Indiana State Bar Association’s Agricultural Law Section and is currently the chair of the American Bar Association’s Agricultural Management Committee. Todd authors an agricultural law blog, JanzenAgLaw.com, which is republished on Farm Journal’s AgWeb.com.
