Description: The labor force is evolving as more work is performed by freelance workers in lieu of employees. Governments have started to impose regulations to protect freelance workers. In 2016, New York City passed the Freelance Isn’t Free Act, which contains harsh penalties for non-compliance. That law is a model for other jurisdictions, including New York State which is poised to pass similar legislation.
This seminar will discuss the New York City law, the pending New York State legislation and best practices for a hiring party to follow to avoid liability.
