Description:
Humans, including the ones practicing law, make mistakes. This presentation will focus on five basic proactive steps you can take as an attorney to avoid the spectre of a nasty malpractice suit after representation concludes. Attorneys must be proactive in mitigating risks to their practice. We will cover often-overlooked areas to mitigate risk, including: retainer revisions, client memos, client communication guidelines, and file origination and retention. Think of these tips as a CYA letter in advance so that you don’t have to send one in the future.

Presenter Bios

Michael R. McAndrew joined Laddey, Clark & Ryan, LLP in February 2022 as a partner. Michael has concentrated his practice on professional liability for the past ten years and brings with him an established practice base. At his previous firm, in addition to overseeing the prosecution of professional liability claims, Michael represented clients in insurance coverage actions, commercial litigation, and employment matters.  Previously, he was associated with a national law firm as a member of its Professional Liability team.

Michael brings with him a wealth of experience in handling these complex matters on behalf of individual and corporate clients. The diversity of Michael’s practice prior to his decision to concentrate on professional liability matters has lent itself well to assisting current clients in the prosecution of their claims.
