In this presentation, attorney Aaron Solomon and CEO Meredith Parfet will discuss what a business crisis looks like from a client’s point of view and what they may be looking for and not getting from their lawyer. The course will also place the role of a lawyer as an advisor during a crisis within the framework of ABA Model Rule 2.1 and suggest specific techniques for helping clients set priorities to navigate a crisis.
Aaron Solomon is the Director of Strategy and Legal Liaison of Ravenyard Group. Aaron was strongly drawn to Ravenyard’s mission because of his own experience in the legal profession and what he saw as a fundamental lack of understanding around the human issues that arise out of client crises. This led him to explore issues of professional agency, the intersection of personal crisis and work, and non-traditional pathways to success and wellbeing. He firmly believes that self-awareness is central to success in business and life.
Prior to Ravenyard, Aaron spent nearly 15 years as an attorney specializing primarily in commercial litigation. He served for nearly ten years as an outside counsel for the State of Colorado in arbitrations under the 1998 master tobacco settlement agreement. These arbitrations, with billions of dollars at issue, involved almost all of the states and territories of the United States along with all of the major American tobacco manufacturers. His work on complex contentious matters allowed him to hone his ability to bring together diverse viewpoints in a high-profile, high-stakes context.
Aaron holds a JD from the University of Chicago Law School and a BA with Honors from Wesleyan University’s College of Social Studies.
Meredith Parfet is the Founder and CEO of Ravenyard Group. Ravenyard was conceived out of the recognition that traditional crisis management needed to be reimagined. People experiencing crisis don’t need PR experts, they need crisis experts. Business crises require experience not only in communications, but in business. And most importantly, leaders need support in order to lead. Meredith has experienced crises across all areas of her life, including the tragic loss of her sister, her own near death, as well as a significant business crisis. She’s applied her learnings – personal and professional – to help leaders manage, survive, and even thrive through crisis.
Meredith has nearly two decades of asset management and hedge fund experience, including acting as the Chief Operating Officer for two alternative investment funds. She also co-founded Denali Venture Philanthropy, an investment organization that funds entrepreneurs who are committed to social change. Meredith has led organizations of all sizes, from small start-ups to complex, global operations and is a Six Sigma Green Belt.
Meredith holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and a BA in Political Science from Northwestern University. She also holds an MA in Pastoral and Spiritual Care from the Iliff School of Theology and is a practicing hospice chaplain.
