Description: This recorded CLE webinar reviews the recent Executive Order released by President Joseph Biden, “Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity,” on May 12, 2021. The Colonial Pipeline was paralyzed by a cyberattack committed by a criminal group seeking a ransom. Operations were stalled for several days while people along the East Coast lined up for gas at empty stations.

In response, the Biden administration released the new Executive Order that contains eight key initiatives aimed at modernizing the federal government’s response to cyberattacks. Although the initiatives outlined in the Executive Order only apply to federal contractors (many of which already comply with agency-specific cybersecurity rules), all companies, organizations, and law firms should pay attention to them, as they could be used as models for other laws and as the “baseline” for what security measures businesses will be expected to implement.

Topics covered in this webinar:
  1. State of Cybersecurity
  2. Fallout from Colonial Pipeline Attack
  3. Cybersecurity Requirements
This presentation is presented by the Global Cyber Institute and Lexeprint. It is presented by Daniel Garrie of Law & Forensics, Doug Smith of Mayer Brown, and Eric Talbot Jensen of Brigham Young University School of Law.
