Description: With an uptick in HIPAA audits conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, covered entities and business associates should be prepared to receive audit notification letters with confidence that they can respond affirmatively and comprehensively to reflect compliance with the Privacy Rule, Security Rule and Breach Notification Rule. In this program, particularly of interest to in-house counsel, our presenters discuss how to properly prepare for such an audit to be in the best position possible to meet applicable HIPAA requirements.
 
Presenter(s): 
Michael D. Laycob, Esq., Counsel at Bryan Cave LLP, is leader of his firm’s Health Care Transactions Team. Mr. Laycob’s practice focuses on health care business transactions on a national level and he advises profit and not-for-profit health systems, private hospitals and multi-specialty physician groups on general corporate law and business issues with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Laycob also represents companies providing services to health care providers, including healthcare IT companies, revenue cycle management companies, electronic health record companies and outsourcing companies. Previously, Mr. Laycob was President of a national, leading healthcare IT and revenue cycle management company where he maintained management responsibility for the revenue cycle, information technology, credentialing and electronic health record divisions of the company.
 
Anne P. Sharamitaro, Esq., an attorney at Bryan Cave LLP, is a member of its Health Care Team. Her practice focuses on providing legal advice to clients in healthcare regulatory and transactional matters. Ms. Sharamitaro has over ten years of healthcare regulatory experience regarding merger and acquisition activities involving such entities as hospitals and health systems, physician practices, ambulatory surgery centers, free standing imaging centers, long term care facilities, and managed care plans. Ms. Sharamitaro has published articles in peer reviewed and trade journals, as well as co-authored chapters in several healthcare finance related texts. She has additionally taught continuing education courses and has spoken before healthcare industry groups regarding healthcare regulatory matters.
 
Whitney Horrell, Esq., an associate at Bryan Cave LLP, is a member of its Health Care Team. Ms. Horrell advises clients on mergers and acquisitions and health care regulatory matters, including fraud and abuse laws, drug distributor licensing and HIPAA. Additionally, she routinely drafts and negotiates various commercial agreements, physician employment agreements and business associate agreements. Prior to joining her firm, Ms. Horrell served as in-house counsel for a large not-for-profit health system, where she provided advice related to fraud and abuse laws, physician contracting and mergers and acquisitions. She frequently writes on healthcare related issues.
