Description:

Attorneys John Allen and Brian Quinlan focus on the following issues:

  1. Taxes on death – some can be delayed; some can be avoided
  2. Delay the capital gains tax, with an estate freeze
  3. Delay income tax, with a spousal RRSP rollover – how that works
  4. Avoid the probate tax, with two wills, an alter-ego trust or a joint partner trust
  5. Their interplay – trusts, two wills - a discussion and some pitfalls

Professionalism elements:

  • Getting proper instructions from your client
  • Inter-generational conflicts of interest, where the elderly may want simplicity but the next generation may want complex arrangements to save on estate taxes
