After several failed attempts to modernize Canadas copyright laws, Bill C-11, will bring the Act into the digital age. This webinar will critically evaluate and address the impact of the amendments.
Mr. McKeown will discuss the impact of the amendments to the Act and offer practical guidance on dealing with some of the new issues that will arise, including:
- Technical protection measures and digital rights management
- File sharing and secondary infringement;
- The New Distribution right
- The availability of Statutory damages

John McKeown is a partner at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. Mr. McKeown focuses on providing advocacy and advice concerning intellectual property and related matters including protecting copyright, trademarks, patents, confidential information and misleading advertising claims under the Competition Act. He is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in intellectual property law (trademarks/copyright). Mr. McKeown has particular expertise regarding actions relating to copyright. He is the author of Fox on Copyright and Industrial Designs (third edition 2000, fourth edition 2003), the leading copyright textbook in Canada. Mr. McKeown and the text have been referred to by both the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeals as an authoritive source.
