Genevieve Chornenki, LL.B., LL.M.
Genevieve brings extensive dispute resolution experience to contested estate matters. Her practice is restricted to non-partisan services such as mediation, arbitration, facilitation, and coaching. She has worked as a mediator since 1989 and as an estate mediator since 2003. Genevieve has mediated both voluntary and court mandated cases involving a variety of estates dispute issues. Genevieve was inaugural chair of the ADR section of the Ontario Bar Association and the first recipient of its Award of Excellence in ADR in 1999. She assesses mediation and arbitration candidates for several organizations including the Chartered Mediator designation of the ADR Institute of Ontario.
M. Gaylanne Phelan, B.A., J.D.
Gaylanne was one of the first estates lawyers to promote civil justice reform through alternative dispute resolution. She has mediated approximately 200 estates disputes, most of which have settled successfully. She co-founded the former Centre for Estate Mediation in 1999, at the time of the introduction of mandatory mediation for estates disputes in the Toronto Court system. She also has practiced law in the area of estates, trusts and substitute decisions since 1978. She is a past President and privileged member of the Estate Planning Council of Toronto. She is currently Vice-Chair of the Ontario Bar Association's ADR Section, and in 2006 acted as its representative on the OBA's Civil Justice Reform task force.
John Allen, B.A., B.Sc., LL.B., LL.M. Partner, Allen & Allen Barristers & Solicitors
JOHN ALLEN has a general practice, with a focus on business law and estate planning. John became a lawyer in 1991. He clerked with the Ontario Superior Court and joined Allen & Allen in 1992. John co-authored the 3rd Edition of the Estate Planning Handbook with William Allen and is co-authoring the 4th edition with Brian Quinlan, to be released by Carswell in early 2012. John has a B.A., B.Sc., LL.B., LL.M., and is completing his PhD in law at Osgoode Hall.
