About the Program
Hon. Thomas F. Waldron, a nationally recognized speaker, headlines the 3rd Annual St. Louis Bankruptcy Conference. Judge Waldron will head up a panel on Bankruptcy Ethics that will permit attendees to receive all of the ethics credits needed before June 30, 2010 under the new MoBar CLE rules. Other panels will focus on bankruptcy appeals, involuntary bankruptcies and Chapter 12s.

About the Speakers
Thomas F. Waldron was appointed as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Ohio, at Dayton, in 1985 and served as Chief Judge of the Bankruptcy Court and the first Chief Judge of the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel of the Sixth Circuit. He retired after 22 years of judicial service in October of 2007. He has been a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Dayton law schools. He is a member of the American College of Bankruptcy, his contributions to publications include the American Bankruptcy Law Journal and he is a managing editor for Nortons Bankruptcy Advisor.
Hon. Charles ("Sketch") E. Rendlen, III is a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri. He graduated from William Jewell College (B.S., magna cum laude, 1972) and the University of Missouri--Columbia School of Law (J.D., 1976). He was in private practice in Hannibal, Missouri until 2003 when he was appointed by the United States Attorney General as the United States Trustee for Region 13. In 2006, he was appointed to his current position on the Court.
Judge Kathy A. Surratt-States has served as a Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri since 2003. She received her bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Oklahoma City University in 1988, and her law degree from Washington University School of Law (Missouri) in 1991. She is a former Clerk for the Hon. James J. Barta, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri and, while in practice, was a member of the Panel of Bankruptcy Trustees for the Eastern District of Missouri. In addition to practicing law, Judge Surratt-States has been an active member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and the Mound City Bar Association. In 2000 she was appointed to the Regional Disciplinary Committee by the Supreme Court of Missouri. In 2001 she was appointed by Governor Bob Holden to the St. Louis City Board of Elections Commissioners.
Susan M. Spraul is Clerk of the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel. Prior to joining the BAP, Ms. Spraul served as law clerk to the Honorable Barry S. Schermer, Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri and member of the Eighth Circuit BAP. Ms. Spraul also served as law clerk to the Honorable Marcia S. Krieger when Judge Krieger was Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Colorado and a member of the Tenth Circuit BAP. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.
Cindy Harrison has been the Coordinator for the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel since its inception in 1997. Prior to that, she worked seven years at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. She graduated magna cum laude from St. Louis University.
Paul H. Berens is a partner in the Cape Girardeau law firm of Bradshaw, Steele, Cochrane & Berens, L.C. After graduation from St. Louis University College of Law, he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force as a JAG. His concentration is primarily creditors rights in both commercial and bankruptcy matters. He has received the usual awards and recognitions you would expect of a panelist.
David Gunn is with the firm of Mueller & Haller where he primarily represents consumer debtors in bankruptcy cases. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri Columbia School of Law. He is a member of the Missouri Bar, the Debtor Attorneys of Metropolitan St. Louis, and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.
Amy Tucker Ryan is a Senior Associate in the St. Louis office of Martin, Leigh, Laws and Fritzlen, P.C. She received her J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis and her B.A. from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. She is a member of the National Association of Chapter Thirteen Trustees, the American Bankruptcy Institute, The Bankruptcy Association of Southern Illinois, and is Secretary of the Bankruptcy Practice Memorial Fund for the Eastern District of Missouri. She is a Mentor for the Student Law Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (Washington University School of Law). Ms. Ryans practice focuses on Bankruptcy Law and Creditors Rights.
