Description: The RICO Act played a prominent supporting role in the first season of the Breaking Bad spin-off series: Better Call Saul. When most movies and television shows refer to RICO, they simply refer to the statute as a weapon – a weapon powerful enough to strike down the most vile criminals, even the Joker. (See The Dark Knight) Better Call Saul, however, went a bit further, referring not just to “RICO” by name but buy building upon the mythology of RICO. The recipe for all mythology is, of course, an ounce of truth and a pound of exaggeration. In this one-hour CLE, we will discuss the mythology of RICO versus the reality of RICO in the context of the fictional scheme to defraud discovered by Jimmy and Chuck McGill. In the end, you will be better able to counsel your clients on the differences between the fact and fiction of RICO.
