In 2007, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg told a Stanford audience, “Young people are just smarter.” This notion, which rests on longstanding stereotypes about older employees, seems to permeate the technology sector, as a whole. While it may be the new “high-tech trend” of Silicon Valley, age discrimination is not “new” to the American workplace. This webcast will discuss the purpose and intent of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (“the ADEA”), as well as the New York State and City Human Rights Laws. The webcast will also discuss how claims of age discrimination are analyzed and will examine various defenses that may arise. The program will also discuss the damages that a victim of age discrimination may face, which can often be substantial and permanent.
