Serving on a charitable board is an opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause or mission, gain experience, broaden your career horizons, and use your skills to serve your community in an area of your interest. The Tax Exempt Organizations Section of the Boston Bar Association is proud to present this engaging program that will address the skills you will need in order to be an effective member of a charitable board, as well as important questions to ask to find the right board for you.
This program will be particularly valuable to lawyers who have little or no significant experience serving on charitable boards but would like to. Lawyers and non-lawyers who are already serving on boards and want to be more knowledgeable and effective will also find this program informative.
Specific Topics:
-
How to find Board membership opportunities and finding the right match for you
-
What boards are looking for in potential candidates and what you should look for in a board
-
Topics and skills that Board members should be aware of (fiduciary duties, fiscal oversight, development, governance and 501(c)(3) reporting issues)
-
Learning from peers: fellow attorneys discuss their experience serving on boards and what they found most fulfilling, challenging and surprising.
Join us to acquire valuable skills that will assist you in serving the nonprofit community.
