2012 Emerging Markets Investment and Compliance Forum - New York NY
Having generated over three-quarters of global economic growth in the last five years, many emerging and frontier markets are currently experiencing a slowdown. Yet, a few glitches and volatility notwithstanding, the growth in professionalization, liberalization and disposable income remains positive, making these economies attractive destinations for U.S. business and investments. Traditional state-and family-owned enterprises are attracting or competing with professional leaders. Institutional capacity is strengthening through support from supra-nationals, the private sector and governments. The environmental and social impacts of doing business, transparency and disclosure are under increasing scrutiny.
The 2012 Thomson Reuters Emerging Markets Investment and Compliance Forum will explore how companies already doing, or seeking to do, business in these countries can competitively and responsibly address specific challenges and risks in light of the current legal and regulatory landscape.
Topics to be covered include:
The scope and trajectory of economic growth and business investment opportunities in BRICS.
An overview of market-entry challenges to business investment opportunities in emerging markets and how successful companies are managing these challenges.
Ethics and compliance issues implicated by foreign investment transactions in emerging markets with special attention to the domestic laws of China and Brazil, and the material parallels and divergences between these regimes and the FCPA.
Risk and compliance issues arising from joint ventures and strategic alliances in emerging markets transactions.
Issues relating to currency controls in emerging markets and the resulting compliance demands on business investors in these markets.
Unique investment potentials and risks associated with transactions in MENA and other frontier markets.
