Every attorney will face tax issues at some point. Whether its learning to recognize these issues or simply to educate oneself about the workings of the IRS and the DOR, attendees will leave with a working knowledge of basic tax practice.
This program is designed to familiarize attorneys with tax issues faced by low-wage families with tax controversies however, the core principles discussed equally apply to higher income taxpayers and small business. Emphasis will be placed on collection options and defenses, particularly with regard to the IRS and DOR collection process. The panel will also analyze hypothetical situations based on actual cases, for additional and practical advice.
We strongly encourage attorneys interested in taking pro bono tax cases to attend this training. Many low-wage taxpayers face the IRS on their own. An attorney can make all the difference in expediently resolving the taxpayers issue, keeping the IRS in check, and increasing access to justice.
