Description: In every case, a judge is required to evaluate whether his or her impartiality might reasonably be questioned or whether any specific disqualification rule preclude the judge from presiding. This program will assist new judges address the disqualification issues that are particularly likely to be faced by a new judge, for example, whether to disqualify when a former law partner files an appearance or, for former prosecutors, whether to disqualify when a criminal case is handled by that office. In addition, the program will give an overview of the disqualification rules, with examples of situations in which a judge is and is not disqualified, to give new judges tool to assess the impartiality requirement.
