Description:

The Advanced Summit on Business Valuation: Resolving Tax & Legal Issues is the only
gathering of top appraisers, lawyers, judges and regulators in taxation and valuation. Attendees at this one-of-a-kind assembly will gain first-hand knowledge and insights from those setting the standards, those following them, and those interpreting them. Join us in the nation’s capital for this can’t-miss event hosted by Business Valuation Resources and Georgetown Law CLE.

In Part One, our conference chairs review their unique perspectives on how decisions from Congress, the Tax Court, the Internal Revenue Service and improvements in financial analysis standards are colliding and what leading lawyers and business appraisers can do best to represent their clients.

Next, in their only joint public meeting this year, three of the most important leaders from the Internal Revenue Service will discuss the implementation, enforcement and appeals of Service regulations. You will have the opportunity to hear directly from those
making the decisions that impact your practice.

It can be argued that 2010 has produced more precedent-setting Tax Court decisions
which opine on valuation case law than any previous period. In the next panel, you will discuss recent trends in valuation case law and what these mean for the practice of
business valuation in trust and estates and tax engagements.

Effectively presenting testimony as a financial expert can go far beyond knowledge of the case, professional standards, or the expert report. This next presentation will show how expert witnesses can excel beyond the basics, including: strategy for expert witness
selection; expert testimony admissibility; expert reports; maximizing your expert
witness testimony; and an analysis of the proposed amendments to FRCP 26 set to
take effect December 1, 2010.

After hearing how expert witnesses can prepare effective testimony, hear directly from the judges as they express their views on how that testimony is received and what is expected of the expert witness. This panel will offer their candid perspectives and is critical for those involved in tax controversies.
