Description:

What is it about how we live, who we love, and how we see ourselves that creates such deep social, political, and legal divides?

Few other social issues remain as polarizing as sexual orientation and gender identity. Eschewing any single legal or political analysis, this course instead focuses on firsthand accounts of individuals' experiences with competing legal, social, and political forces and on the divisive effect of these forces on state and federal jurisprudence.

Through the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner, firsthand accounts, and thought-provoking discussion from expert panelists, this program will explore polarized social attitudes related to sexual orientation and gender identity and their impact on law throughout the country.
