This program is Part 4 of a 4-part series from the "29th Annual Duke Estate Planning Conference" provided by Duke University Law School.

This two-day conference consists of a series of lecture sessions designed to examine in detail current developments in the estate and gift tax field; strengthen the practitioner’s knowledge and application of estate planning techniques to a multitude of diverse and complex problems; and to provide a forum for the discussion of important estate planning problems and their solutions. The sessions will be led by a group of conference faculty members comprised of estate planning and tax practitioners and legal scholars. Faculty members have been selected for their knowledge of the subjects, teaching skills, and their ability to communicate clearly.

Topics for this discussion include:

  • Not So Bad Once You Get used to It?  Charitable Giving Under the Pension Protection Act ~ The Pension Protection Act of 2006 made a number of changes in the rules governing charitable contributions A few new incentives were added, and even more new restrictions make this already complicated area even worse. This presentation will review the good news and bad news, and discusses how advisers should react.

  • Rainmakers & Rock Stars: Panel Presentation"Rainmakers & Rockstars" is a panel discussion by leaders in the field of estate planning on how to develop a reputation for excellence, how to generate business, how to maintain business and how you can become a rainmaker. The panelists will describe what steps they took to build their reputations and grow successful practices. These issues will be addressed from different perspectives: size of practice, geographic focus, target market, etc.
