This webcast will examine the intersection of law and the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT comprises the increasingly smart devices in our homes and vehicles, as well as wearable technologies, that connect to the Internet. These devices are embedded with software and sensors that collect and transmit data. At the same time, the IoT embraces larger-scale linked networks, comprising smart cities, telemedicine, and various kinds of new industrial and energy grids, to name a few examples.
From both a litigation and a transactional perspective, lawyers are being called upon to understand and support IoT-related activities. To that end, this webcast will include:

A “report from the trenches” highlighting emerging case law touching on IoT subjects (e.g., use of Fitbit data in personal injury litigation);

Discussion of the federal and state laws in the area of privacy and security with implications for the IoT;

Recent actions by the US Federal Trade Commission and other federal agencies;

The facilities and networks that have to be in place to support the IoT;

How lawyers can provide advice to clients on the use of analytics from Big Data collected from the IoT.
