Human trafficking is one of the largest and fastest-growing illegal industries in the world. In February 2012, Massachusetts enacted "An Act Relative to the Commercial Exploitation of People", which creates both criminal and civil penalties for human trafficking-related offenses. In addition, the Act established a task force within the Office of the Attorney General to study human trafficking.
This program familiarizes attendees with the issue of human trafficking and Massachusetts law related thereto. The panelists also provide an overview of of the legal work that is being done throughout the city to combat human trafficking, including the government agencies engaged in the work, the specific legal issue and/or facet of the problem that government agencies are addressing, and what additional resources can be offered by the legal community.
